The Holy Synod of the Jerusalem Patriarchate is expected to elect a suffragan ( 15.05.2005 )

The Holy Synod of the Jerusalem Patriarchate is expected to elect a suffragan during the next ten days, after the ratification of the Renouncement Act of Eirinaios from the Patriarchal throne, by King Abdullah II of Jordan, a decision that the Cabinet of Ministers took three days ago. According to sources, the Holy Sepulcher members are expected to receive the documents from Amman, and following this the Synod will convene in order to decide on the election of a suffragan that will commence the procedures for the election of the new Patriarch of Jerusalem. These developments clarify the situation for Phanar, where on Tuesday the High Synod is expected to meet to decide on Eirinaios’ future. Information alleging the Eirinaios is to go to Phanar on Monday remains unclear. In the meantime Eirinaios will receive a dedication in the Patriarchal Mass in Phanar as normal, despite the demand of the Jerusalem Patriarchate Administrative Committee to halt the dedication of the deposed Patriarch.
