The Session of the General Assembly of the Russian Orthodox Church began in the cathedral of the Lord Jesus Christ the Saviour

On January the 27th, began the conference of the General Assembly of the Russian Orthodox Church. The sessions will take place in the cathedral of the Lord Jesus Christ the Saviour. Before opening of the Assembly meeting in the church, where priests, monks, and laity – delegates of the General assembly already took their place, the Hierarchs dressed in cassock entered the cathedral through the west gate.
The Throne Keeper, Metropolitan of Smolensk and Kaliningrad Kiril, said a prayer in front of the icon of Holy Mother of God.
Then, Metropolitan Kiril read the Charter of the Hierarch’s Assembly to convoke the General Assembly of the Russian Orthodox Church from 27th to 29th of January, 2009, in the city of Moscow, in the cathedral of Jesus Christ the Saviour and declared the Assembly open. All the participants of the Assembly pronounced together the Symbol of Faith.
