Venerable Theoctistus     9/16/2013

Companion in ascesis of Saint Euthymius the Great. Theoctistus was abbot of the Lavra of Pharan that was located on six-mile distance from Jerusalem, on the road to Jericho. He was a disciple of Saint Euthymius and under his spiritual guidance he had governed the monastery until ninety years of age. With his life he pleased God and fell asleep in Him in the middle of the fifth century, at the time when Athanasius was Partiarch of Jerusalem.
