At just before midnight of the Holy and Great Saturday, after nearly an hour of chanting and prayer, the lights in the crowded cathedral of St. George the Victor went out and His Holiness Bartholomew brought out several candles, the flame from which is traditionally brought from the site of the Lord’s Tomb in Jerusalem.
