Plans to renew the Valaam monastery

The Board for renewal of the Valaam monastery, which is under the patronage of the Russian patriarch Alexis II, has initiated restoration works on this ancient monastery in Northern Russia. Last year the upper church of the monastery cathedral, for 70 years utterly neglected, was formally consecrated and now occasionally divine services are performed in it. Along with the monastery itself, restored were all the ships of the monastery fleet, plenty of sketes and skete churches. Today, in the Moscow church of Christ the Saviour, Patriarch Alexis II of Russia will preside over the meeting of the Board.
