On 7 October 2006, with the blessing by the administrator of the Moscow Patriarchate parishes in the USA, Bishop Mercurius of Zaraisk, in St. Paul’s chapel at the Columbia University, Priest Alexander Abramov celebrated Divine Liturgy in the Church Slavic language.
Fr. Alexander, the secretary of the Moscow Patriarchate Representative in the USA, in his address to the present at the Liturgy underlined that the motto of this renowned university, in Thy light shall we see light, is a part of a church hymn in Orthodox worship. This clearly indicates the deep link between genuine education and striving after spiritual growth, the union with God being its ultimate aim.
